At this time of year, it pays to reflect on what the true meaning of the holidays is.  I know it sounds trite, but it isn't the commercial aspect, nor the celebrations, nor the gifts, but rather giving thanks (and not just on Thanksgiving!).  We had the wonderful opportunity to invite a young local family over for Thanksgiving (one we did not know, had never met, and was worse off than us), as well as having a great friend join us who was stuck in town due to work.  It was probably one of the best Thanksgivings we have ever experienced!

We realized that what we had in possessions, could not equal what we could offer in companionship and compassion.  We realized that although times might be tough, we can always count on hope, and others, to set things right.  We truly recognized what was important in our lives- love, hope, family, friends, respect for others, integrity, and principle.  These things can never be taken away by others.  They empower you to persevere, and bring you closer as a people.

We have vowed to keep this outlook throughout the year not just during the Holiday season.  We will repeat our offerings every year, regardless of our circumstance.  We will remember, that often, the best gift is the one that cannot be wrapped.  It is giving of one's self, and giving to those that least expect it.

So thank you.  Thank you for all that we are.
